BE PREPARED

As we gear up for the much-anticipated Total Solar Eclipse in Corsicana this April, it's crucial for our local businesses, churches, and community members to be well-prepared for the influx of visitors. Here's what you can expect and how you can actively contribute to this celestial celebration.

For Community Members

1. Eclipse Glasses and Safety:

  • Secure certified solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing at the Visitor's Center downtown. Never gaze directly at the sun without proper eye protection.

  • Educate everyone in your family, including children, on the significance of eclipse safety.

2. Plan Your Viewing Location:

  • Identify prime locations in Corsicana for optimal eclipse viewing other than your home, such as open spaces, parks, or high vantage points with

       minimal light pollution.

  • Arrive early to secure a favorable spot, as popular viewing areas may experience increased crowds.

  • Landowners and business owners, consider providing parking spaces for eclipse viewing - see below.

  • If you manage a church or business parking lot, please also submit a viewing form below.

3. Check Weather and Timing:

  • Stay updated on local weather forecasts to ensure clear skies on eclipse day.

  • Be aware of the precise timing of the eclipse in Corsicana to ensure you don't miss the main event. Follow the community social media pages  to stay informed.

4. Camera and Binoculars:

  • If you're keen on capturing the moment, prepare your camera and binoculars. Use solar filters for your camera to safeguard your equipment.

5. Traffic and Community Congestion Tips:

  • Prepare for increased traffic, particularly if you'll be traveling around town or to specific viewing spots. Plan to depart early to minimize delays.

  • Help alleviate congestion by carpooling with fellow community members, friends, and family.

  • Traveling together ensures a smoother experience for everyone and fosters a sense of community during this exciting event.

6. Local Events and Activities:

  • Explore local eclipse-related events, including Eclipse Fest, educational programs, or eclipse parties.

  • Be aware that due to the anticipated increase in visitors, these gatherings may attract larger crowds.

  • Embrace the opportunity to engage with the community and fellow eclipse enthusiasts during these exciting events.

7. Supplies:

  • Prepare your home and family days in advance by stocking up on essential supplies.

  • Grocery stores may experience increased crowds from visitors, potentially impacting street and parking lot availability.

8. Mobile Apps and Resources:

  • Download eclipse-related mobile apps for real-time information on the eclipse's progression.

  • Stay informed about any last-minute updates or changes to eclipse-related events.

9. Share the Experience:

  • Extend invitations to friends and family to join you for this memorable and educational experience.

10. Respect the Environment:
